Home Defense

For most of us, home defense and the protection of our family is a primary reason why we chose to own and train with firearms. There is no more intrinsic human right than that of self-defense and the defense of our family. With that in mind, it is of paramount importance that we, as responsible gun owners, be as well trained and prepared as we can be. Home defense planning can seem like a huge and daunting task, but if we break it down into its smaller pieces it is very manageable. In this class we address the components of a solid home defense plan.

In this series of classes, we conduct training at our range and offer a second level of instruction where we come to your home and help you develop a plan to protect yourself and your family!

This program focuses on the conditions and situational characteristics related to encounters occurring around and inside structures/rooms.  We start with a classroom discussion of the realities associated with room entry and then move onto the range for a shooter skills review/assessment before proceeding into “ground school” on moving thru doors and around corners, processing rooms, managing light, managing threats/unknowns, communication and movement speeds.

Each attendee will conduct a number of dry and live fire “shooting house” runs throughout the day. The program is handgun oriented. However, rifles are welcome and may be used if desired for many of the exercises.

Because this course implements moving and engaging targets, successful completion of our Handgun Fundamentals class, and preferably our Defensive Pistol or Defensive Rifle course, is a pre-requisite for attendance.

REQUIRED EQUIPMENT

  • Centerfire handgun in a minimum defensive caliber (generally, 9mm or .38spl or larger, with some exceptions.
